Traditional Chinese Medicine

Today we spent in the traditional Chinese medicine ward shadowing the acupuncturist of the hospital. Due to my father running his own acupuncture clinic in America, I have been exposed to many of the practices I saw today. One of the first questions I asked was what kind of education the acupuncturist received for her position. She answered that she went to medical school. This took me very much by surprise as that is not the case in America. I found it amazing that Acupuncture is that engraved into the Chinese hospitals where medical doctors were specializing in the field. With consent of the patients, we were able to see multiple people being treated for a wide arrange of problems. The most interesting were two cases of insomnia and anxiety. The patients were pierced multiple times in many parts of their head and linked to a electronic machine that sent shocks into their body.
